Beni Ourain Rugs

Beni Ourain rugs are the most recognisable expression of Berber weaving, hand-knotted by the Beni Ourain tribes of the Middle Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Their signature language is quiet: a soft ivory or cream wool field, touched with sparse rows of lozenge diamonds, lines and zigzags drawn in warm brown or black. There are no busy patterns here — just the spare geometry that makes each rug feel calm, warm and quietly valuable. This is why the Beni Ourain has become a staple of modern interiors from Copenhagen to California.

Every rug in this collection is knotted by hand on a traditional wooden loom, using 100% natural highland sheep wool that has never been dyed — the cream ground comes from the natural colour of the fleece, and the darker motifs from a second natural wool. Because the wool is unspun and high-pile, Beni Ourain rugs are exceptionally soft underfoot, naturally insulating, and they develop a subtle patina as they age. The diamond and lozenge motifs that appear across this collection are traditional Berber symbols — protectors woven into the rug by the woman who made it.

We currently keep the largest Beni Ourain range on the site: over 150 one-of-one pieces in 8×10, 6×9 and 4×6 sizes, all in stock and ready to ship. Because each rug is individually knotted, no two are identical — the pattern, texture and pile height vary slightly from piece to piece, which is the signature of an authentic handmade rug.
