Azilal · Handmade in Morocco
Handwoven in the Azilal tradition of the High Atlas Mountains, this Moroccan rug inverts the expected color relationship by placing cream Amazigh motifs against a deep black field. The composition is structured in graphic sections-X motifs, chevrons, vertical dotted bands, stepped lines, and triangular forms-creating a visual rhythm that moves across the surface with purpose and variation. The high-contrast palette gives the rug a strong contemporary presence while the individual motifs carry ancient Berber symbolism. The weaver has arranged the pattern in sections, creating zones of different visual densities. Some areas are densely patterned, others open, letting the black field serve as both background and active participant in the composition. The thick plush pile with a soft, dense handwoven texture creates a surface that is both visually striking and comfortable underfoot. Hand-knotted from 100% wool in Morocco, the rug carries the deep black achieved through natural dyeing techniques that have been refined over generations. This rug makes a strong statement in any space. The contrast between the black field and the cream motifs creates a graphic impact that works naturally in contemporary interiors, while the handcrafted quality and traditional motifs connect it to centuries of Azilal weaving tradition.
